A number of Sabine Parish high school students are taking advantages of the dual enrollment opportunities offered by Louisiana Technical College - Sabine Valley Campus. The program provides students with training in their chosen career path by allowing them to enroll in college courses while also completing high school. The students can be admitted as full-time or part-time and must be at least 16-years-old to take classes on campus. Following completion, they earn both high school, or Carnegie, units and LTC credits that are applied toward a college certificate or diploma. The students also attend tuition-free.

One of the most popular programs is the Nurse Assistant program, which allows students to attend high school half of a day and then switch to LTC-SVC for the rest. "LTC Sabine Valley is honored to have the opportunity to serve our young people and provide them with the beginnings of a lucrative career," said Campus Dean Laurie Morrow. "Dual Enrollment provides the students a hands-on approach to obtaining knowledge of high-skill, high-demand occupations.

The program has been a collaborative effort between the college, Sabine Parish School Board, high school principals, counselors, and teachers.

"We have all worked closely together to see that this opportunity has been presented to foster early access to college and increase student success," Morrow said.
