The policy of the Board for entrance into a Technical College is as follows: The Technical College shall be operated under an open-admissions policy and shall serve persons on an equal priority basis, including but not limited to adults, veterans, high school students, persons who have dropped out of high school, and minority ethnic groups. Admission to all programs of Northwest Louisiana Technical College Natchitoches Branch will be made without regard to race, religion, national origin, sex, or disability. A high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is a requirement for admission into Cosmetology, Emergency Medical Technician, Practical Nursing, and Associate Degree programs. See specific program area for additional entrance requirements.
Applications for the Health Occupations programs are accepted on a class basis with the specific testing date(s) being advertised regionally. The Business and Early Childhood Education Associate Degree programs admit students on a semester basis. The Practical Nursing and Nursing Assistant programs enroll on a class basis. Students are required to provide proof of residency, selective service registration (if applicable), and immunization records before enrollment. Written authorization for release of information may also be made at time of enrollment. A student must meet the requirements of the current catalog or the catalog effective at the time of entry provided graduation is within five (5) years from the entrance date. Credit earned earlier than five (5) years before graduation will be subject to review and evaluation by the appropriate program. If a student changes his/her major or does not enroll in a given semester (causing a break in continuity of studies), he/she must use the current catalog in effect at the time they change their major or when they reenter. All Students are required to successfully complete ORNT 1000, Freshman Seminar class within their first two semesters to meet requirements for their degree/diploma. In addition, each program area conducts specific orientation sessions for their students. Students sixteen (16) years of age or older may be accepted as part-time students if approval is granted by their high school principal. The student may enroll to earn high school Carnegie units during the regular school year or during the summer semester. High school students may enroll through special programs arranged by their parish school systems in coordination with the Northwest Louisiana Technical College Natchitoches Branch. High school students do not pay tuition, but must adhere to all other school rules and regulations. High school students may enroll part-time during the school year or full-time during the summer. A student must meet the requirements of the current catalog or the catalog effective at the time of entry provided graduation is within five (5) years from the entrance date. Enrollment requirements for out of state students are the same as in state students. However, the credit hour tuition is doubled for out of state students
Admission Procedures:
Interested persons may apply in person at the school Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The COMPASS/ASSET is administered each Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. to interested applicants. Applicants are tested in three components: Writing, Reading, and Math. The cost of the placement exam is five dollars ($5) per component and five dollars ($5) application fee. A student may test a maximum of three (3) times per calendar year (12 months). The cost of retesting is five dollars ($5) per component. The test is used to assist with career planning and placement in training programs. Aptitude/interest inventories are offered to assist the applicant with career/occupational training choices. COMPASS/ASSET scores may be transferred from other technical colleges in the Louisiana Technical College System if the test was administered within the previous three (3) years. Requests for scores must be made in writing through Student Services.
Enrollment - Students are encouraged to enroll at the beginning of a semester. Developmental Studies, Cosmetology, and Health Occupations programs enroll new students as entrance requirements are met, vacancies occur, and/or as new classes begin. In the event a program has a full student load, the applicant is placed on a waiting list and is called for admission in order of the date of application.
